A Loveletter to the great Blue

What is water? It´s essential for all living organisms, and also the main constituent of Earth´s streams, lakes, and oceans. We can´t live without it, but on the other hand, it´s our enemy too. Chemists may define water as a molecule containing one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms. But to me, as a competitive swimmer, water meant way more than that. It felt much more like a safe space to me and later turned into my favorite environment to take pictures in as a photographer.

Somehow I always feel the urge to take a picture of every pool, lake, river, or any other form of water I encounter, it just amazes me so much.

Fascinating how every little wave is different from the other, and never the same, creating millions of reflections on its shiny surface.

This shot reminds me of the safeness of water, in its purest and wildest form possible, while still welcoming every splash and jump with open arms.

From an early age I am used to going to the pool, which to be fair I absolutely HATED when being younger, only falling in love with swimming and appreciating the beauty of water in my early teens. To this day I couldn't find a better way to spend a sunny day, other than being near the pool (or ocean).

First time using an underwater film camera, for sure not the easiest one to dial in, but nonetheless I really love how these images of my girlfriend in Polignano a Mare turned out! Reminds me of the all-time classic movie Blue Lagoon! Thanks for jumping in the freezing water for me, love you!

A few days ago I had the pleasure to shoot an Austrian Olympic swimmer, and a very good friend of mine, Christopher Rothbauer, in his natural habitat of course! Love how the underwater stills captured by a GoPro turned out, could be straight from a Vogue cover. This series is very close to my heart since it shows a world which I am so familiar with, portraying a great athlete, but not in the usual training or racing environment, but much more in an artistic way!

Whether a calm lake, stormy ocean, or clear blue chlorine-filled pool, water can have so many faces and shapes, while still being calming in every one of these. We also arrived at the end of our little journey, which portrayed my safe place and great love too. Have a wonderful day, and take some amazing pictures!
