2022 recap
This is a brief recap of my experiences from 2022, join along!
2022 was a year of self-reflection, a journey of finding my own style, experimenting, amazing new connections, unforgettable memories, lots of lessons, and many “first times”.
In May I finally upgraded to my first full-frame camera, which led to my first broken camera just a few months in, fun times. 3 more broken film cameras accompanied the 6D at different points during the year, so I had some material and financial losses.
I also shot my first wedding in September, which was a blast, to be honest.
It was also the first year where I kinda knew what aesthetic and visual style I want to pressure and stick to in the future, what motives are interesting to me, and what resonates with me truly.
I came to the conclusion to browse less social media and to stop caring about the numbers (likes followers etc.), which helped my mental state and time management for sure.
My work had unarguably the biggest variety this year, both with cameras I shot with, as the subjects in the frame. Even though I still consider film as the most beautiful and natural medium to shoot with, I tried to incorporate that aesthetic into my mainly digital workflow.
I wanted to follow my path, and everything that looks interesting to me, even if it doesn't follow trends or will be well received on social media.
Even the sources I draw inspiration from changed drastically, wether off-, or online.
I still consider photography as an endless experimentation towards my subjective perfection, which ironically will never come, at least in my eyes.
The biggest takeaway from 2022 needs to be the way I talked to myself in my head and criticize my work/myself, which needs to be changed. I tend to be too harsh with myself, often leading to not liking my own work/style.
All things considered, I am more than happy with how 2022 turned out and very grateful for all the opportunities and connections I made along the way, and for the many great shoots, memories, and pictures.
