What inspires me?

It's undoubted that there is no art or new creation without a source of inspiration. This can be any type of input that drives the mind of the artist to give birth to something new, ideally with his personal touch. The following isn't necessarily solely about what inspires me, but also the way I see the world, my art, and my surroundings currently, with my current style.

Since I picked up a camera in 2021 for the first time my style of shooting, editing and just the way I view the world around me changed drastically, for the better.

Even though I wasn't delighted with my art back then, I couldn't figure out the necessary steps or had the courage to follow my instincts and passion, and not trendy photographers on Instagram.

I tried to open up to other artists, and started to study the masters of photography, who inspire millions with their work, the Newmans, the Avedons, and many others…

I also embraced the fact that I Ioved to shoot anything which seemed interesting to me, even if it was just a houseplant with some nice shadows or abstract silhouettes in the streets.

My inspiration for color photography is based heavily on the colors of 35 mm and medium format film, which I consider the most natural and satisfying to this day.

My monochrome images rely on big contrasts and a dramatic look, just like at the beginning of black and white photography seen by Brassai or Kertész.

It's hard for a car lover and petrolhead like myself to incorporate the photography of cars in an artistic way, and that's why I post and shoot fewer cars than I would love to, simply because I don't consider them on their own interesting enough, at least in most surroundings.

I am more and more drawn to more alive portraits, instead of boring sexy model-faced ones seen everywhere, which is fine and still desirable of course.

This is all nice but I still need to mention my inspiration right? Well…that's complex…I guess? I could list some photographers for you to follow, or some books to read…but I consider this to be a more personal journey with a touch of destiny to it.

Everyone's photography is unique and perfect as it is for that individual, and what I would consider aesthetic or pleasing might be viewed as boring by others.

So my advice would be to be open-minded, try out new things, watch gorgeous movies, appreciate some nice shadows, slow down, observe and trust your process, and be yourself, shoot what you want!
