Canon Prima Zoom 85N

If you have any experience with point-and-shoot cameras, you most likely know that those are mostly as reliable as Wizz Air's schedule these days. Of all the 6 point and shoots I have owned, 5 of them broke, or never worked, due to multiple reasons, such as spring failure, dx code reader malfunction or some straight-up died in my hands like a love interest in a bad action movie.

With 3 of my cameras in the shop for repairs (with my beloved Chinon too), I was already looking for at least one reliable point-and-shoot camera, which WORKS.

I truly believe in the law of attraction, so when visiting a market in Budapest, and spotted this Canon Prima just laying on a table, I shot my shot (especially because it was literally just 5 euros, which is an insane bargain, even if it doesn't work). Let’s start with this prima review (Prima means great in german)!

Brief technical overview of this gem: It is fully automatic, equipped with a 38-85mm 2.2x zoom lens which includes an aspherical lens element. It has 6 modes, including auto flash, auto flash with red-eye correction, flash on, flash off, real-time and self-timer functions.

So far I only used the wide angle lens, and mostly on auto, or flash off/on, depending on the situation.

The first thing I absolutely love is the on-point autofocus, which I truly missed in my kinda zone focus Chinon 35. The Canon just nails it almost every time, creating very sharp images and stunning details.

It is also very compact in size and has just the perfect weight. The film winds automatically back when your roll has reached its limit.

These are some of my favorite images I shot on film, especially after some disappointing experiences with my other point-and-shoot cameras. I am happy with this one and sure that it will certainly stay in my inventory! Can recommend this fella to everyone, you won't be disappointed in the image qualities, and takes out the guesswork if you nailed your shots or not! Hope you enjoyed this review, have a lovely day, and take some great pictures!
