Spontaneity for the win
Let me share a quick story about a recent shoot of mine, which might be a good lesson for many of you. So buckle up, and let's dive in. I mostly have at least one location for my shoots in my head or the area where I want some pictures.
This wasn't different today, I had an interesting pedestrian walkway tunnel in mind (no idea if that's the name of these, underpass I guess fits too), which in theory, sounded good.
When we arrived there with the model, there was literally a fist fight in front of that tunnel (I kid you not, absolutely normal around Nyugati station), so plan B it is which meant to stroll around the area surrounding the Parliament.
On our way there, surprise No 2 struck, which was the lack of my main camera battery. Never experienced this before, since I am known for my OCD and overpacking always, which kinda saved me this time. People often smile or question while I carry mostly 3 cameras with me (my main digital, a small digital Casio, and an analog) and I mostly justify it with an artistic approach, or that every one of these serves its own purpose.
This time this saved our shoot, since I could easily adapt to the situation and just shoot with the remaining 2 cameras.
Would a professional full-frame camera make better pictures? I guess I will never know, probably yes, but people often forget that there are so many factors to a series of great pictures, and often times the camera doesn't really matter in the end.
As long as you know your gear, play to its strengths, and are confident in your work, nothing really matters, this is also true outside of photography. Of course, there are ideal, and less ideal circumstances and always will be, but if you can brush these off with a shrug of your shoulder, you win.
These ended up being one of my favorite pictures of the year and were a good lesson for me to grow creatively. Hopefully, this little post will help you with your photography, or even life, I wish you a lovely day, and take some great pictures!
