Embrace Simplicity

Especially as beginner photographers, some might think (at least I did), that you need better equipment, an exquisite location, perfect lighting, and many other ideal or best conditions to create something amazing.

Looking back on the history of Photography can tell us otherwise, or even shine a light on the beauty of simplicity.

Keep in mind that the majority of these photographers had compared to modern-day equipment a worse camera than you! Yet their work stood up all these years and remained amongst the best.

In my opinion, your eye and mindset as a photographer is trained and challenged the most when you have to create art out of the ordinary, and often simple, for you even in daily environments.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not stating that every corner in every room or every little shadow on a dirty wall can be worthy of a frame, but you might be surprised how many new subjects and opportunities for pictures you might see when you switch your mindset around.

No ideal light? Look for movement or extraordinary composition. Too much going on in the frame? Get closer to picking out some details, or crop it in a post. Lights are too bright? Use the shadows to create deep and mysterious contrasts!

I recommend a few walks a week if possible, and just be open-minded and look for some potential shots, without pressing the shutter at first. Think, observe, and then react.

You will notice huge improvements in your photography when you can create beautiful shots out of ordinary environments or even a sense of abstraction.
